The Smash Bros. community has had quite the shakeup over the last couple months, with many allegations and outings of top players surfacing regarding predatory behavior. Now it appears that Twitch has made the decision to ban the former Smash Bros. pro “Zero” for an undisclosed time period. Zero had previously been removed from Facebook Gaming after allegedly admitting to sending inappropriate messages to minors – even after knowing the age of one of the minors he was in talks with.

ZeRo's following on Twitch ranked 272nd overall on the website and averaged roughly 2,000 concurrent viewers per livestream in the last three months, according to stream statistics website.

Twitch is the world's leading video platform and community for gamers. Twitch permanently bans ZeRo following his confession to being a part of the rampant sexual misconduct recently discovered in competitive Smash Bros. It didn’t stop there, as with most of these situations, this was just the tip of the iceberg. As time went on, more allegations against ZeRo surfaced of alleged inappropriate behavior towards women in the Smash Bros. community.

Zero

A look through Zero’s previously active Twitch channel shows that he hadn’t been actively streaming on the site since sometime in 2019, but apparently Twitch decided to effectively cut ties altogether during their recent sweep of suspensions.

In the wake of a mass outing of predatory behavior in the Smash Bros. community, former Smash Bros. pro and streamer Gonzalo “ZeRo” Barrios has been banned from Twitch for a currently unknown period. This ban follows his dismissal from both Facebook Gaming and Tempo Storm after he admitted to sending sexually explicit messages to minors, despite having discovered the age of one of the women he was speaking to. Further allegations of him behaving inappropriately with the women around him in the Smash Community have also come to light since.

Despite having not streamed on Twitch since 2019, ZeRo was kicked in the most recent round of suspensions. A twitter user by the name of “CommanderRoot” also found that ZeRo appears to no longer be partnered with Twitch:

With ZeRo’s partner status seemingly removed, this gives more support towards the idea that the ban may in fact be permanent. It appears that the days of Twitch lifting bans and temporarily suspending partners may be behind us. With the banning of what many would argue was Twitch’s top streamer, Dr Disrespect, it appears that Twitch has begun performing a clean sweep in an attempt to clean up their image.

Interesting to note, both Dr Disrespect and ZeRo have been issued bans with no set duration. This could be a calculated move by Twitch or just an oversight on their part – not feeling the need to specify if a ban is permanent or not.

ZeRo has all but disappeared from the internet at this point, and it’s no surprise to the Smash community. ZeRo has since deleted the tweets from his accounts and from what we can tell doesn’t appear to be active on any social media. It’s unclear whether we will ever hear from ZeRo again, but it does seem pretty certain at this point that he won’t be returning to the Smash scene in the future.

Twitch bans are often somewhat volatile, with offenders like Guy Beahm (aka Dr Disrespect) being allowed to return despite breaking the community guidelines by streaming from a bathroom at E3, an act that was also potentially unlawful. Even US President Donald Trump has faced a temporary ban from streaming on Twitch. It seems that these days may be coming to an end though, as we’ve seen Twitch begin to ban some of the more infamous channels on its platform, including Dr Disrespect once again, this time with no explicit timeframe.

So far, it appears that ZeRo is receiving the same treatment, with his ban duration still currently sitting as a question mark. After additional allegations came to light, the streamer deleted his tweets and has left social media, which means we may not be getting insights from him any time soon.
