Literably Review

If you’re looking to work from home as a transcriber, you’ve probably read about an app called Literably. Literably is a reading assessment app that teachers use to assess their students’ reading strengths and weaknesses. But apart from being an app, Literably is also a company that hires home-based transcribers.

In this Literably Review, I will discuss in more detail what Literably is, how it works for transcribers and whether or not it’s a great venue to start your career as a transcriber.

What is Literably?

Literably is a tool that assesses a child’s reading ability. To use the tool, one simply needs to download it into an iOS device or use the web app in laptop or computer. The student reads the text aloud and Literably records the reading. Literably then creates report within 24 hours, detailing the student’s performance, based on accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. With this data, teachers are able to pinpoint a student’s reading strengths and weaknesses.

According to its website, Literably provides assessment for K-8 students, aiming to identify their reading levels, diagnose reading gaps, and tracks the students’ progress in reading.

Now, let me say it again, Literaby is an app or tool. It is amazing in a way that it helps teachers reduce the time spent on manually assessing each student’s reading performance. But for Literably to provide such an amazing service, someone must work at the back-end. And this is where Literably transcription jobs come in.

Transcribing for Literably: How Does It Work?

So, you’re interested in starting a Literably career as a transcriptionist, but you’re quite not sure how the workflow goes. Well, it’s easy.

Literably sends you a typed out file of the recording. You will listen to the file carefully and take note of errors such as when the kid mispronounced a word, skips, or add a word. You have to score the transcript as accurately as possible to give teachers a solid basis for assessment of their students’ reading abilities.

How Much Does Literably Pay?

How much can you make working at Literably as a transcriber and scorer? Well, that depends on how much work you can handle and how quickly yet accurately you can transcribe and score.

In most Literably job reviews, I’ve found that most people say you can earn around $10 per hour working at Literably. It may seem like a small rate, but it probably applies more to people who are still getting the hang of the workflow. There is a slight learning curve, but when you get used to it, you should be able to take on more work, and in turn, earn more money.

Literably pays only through PayPal, so make sure to have an active PayPal account when you apply. Also see to it that you use your PayPal email address and PayPal account name when you sign up at Literably. Literably pays every week for work done the previous week and will shoulder all the fees so you receive your entire salary without deductions.

But you’ll still have to go through a learning curve, that’s why Literably offers training for new transcribers. At first, Literably will send you a couple of transcribed files. You will go over this file and spot the errors. If the errors you’ve found match the original scored script, then you should be on your way to becoming an efficient Literably transcriber and scorer.

That being said, it pays to listen attentively to the file. A quick brush up on pronunciation rules would also help you a lot.

Is Literably a scam?

When you’re looking for homebased or online work, one of the top questions you ask yourself is whether it is scam or not. In this case, you might wonder: is Literably legit? Or is just another scam?

Based on my research, a lot of people can vouch that Literably is real app and that it truly hires and pays transcribers. Additionally, numerous teachers use the Literably app to help wiith the assesment of their students’ reading skills. This means that the more teachers and students who use the app, there are also more Literably jobs available for transcribers.

Apart from a few complaints about the lean workload at certain times of the year, I still have to find complaints that say Literably is running away with people’s money or something like that. So, to sum it all up, Literably is legit and it can be a good way to make money from home.

Literably reviews: What do people have to say about Literably?

Literably Transcriptionist Login

I did a little more digging to see what it’s like to work at Literably, and maybe give us an idea whether working for Literably is a good idea.

According to these Literably scorer reviews on Glassdoor, Literably is a wonderful company to work with. They pay on time and allow transcirbers to work on their own schedule. However, the reviewer has complaints over the consistency of the “scoring system,” saying it’s hard to pin the right scores all the time. But that overall, working with Literably has been a pleasant experience and his only wish is to have the management send feedback on their scoring recordings.

I’ve also found this thread on Reddit wherein a poster shared his or her Literably transcriptionist reviews. The poster’s main complaint was that the child did not speak clearly enough, was not speaking in English or was just probably making up words. This makes a transcriber and scorer’s job even tougher!

I recommend that you look for other Literably reviews if you’re still not sure whether Literably is the right platform for you.

Transcription Training

I must say that transcription is one of the best ways to break into home-based and online work. Transcription does not require a specific degree or certification, but if you’re just starting out, you could take a course like Transcribe Anywhere to get a feel whether transcription is the right job for you.

What I like about Transcribe Anywhere is that offers comprehensive training for aspiring transcribers, not just to work as transcribers, but also to build a transcription business. This is an ideal stepping stone if you wish to one day move up from being an employee or contractor to becoming a business owner yourself.

Literably Review Conclusion

In this Literably review, we’ve found out that Literably is a very useful app that helps teachers do their jobs easily and quickly. It must be too tasking to manually assess each student’s reading ability. But the Literably app is here to give them the data they need to help students in areas that need improving.

I think Literably would make a perfect start if you want to explore transcription as a work-from-home gig. The starting rate is not very appealing, but you won’t have to commit to a rigid work schedule, making it an excellent side job.
